The three towns in this county split into two different jobs. New Brunswick and Perth Amboy are old, dense cities: roughly half of each city’s housing predates 1960, and most of it sits inside a building with at least one other unit, so a lot of the work here involves shared access and sorting out who is responsible for a given flue. Edison is the opposite pattern. Seven in ten of its houses went up between 1950 and 1989 on their own lots, mostly one chimney per house, and the work there is about a thirty-five-to-seventy-five-year-old chimney and liner that is old enough to be worth checking in person.
